Genesis 26:7 – When the men of that place asked about his wife, Isaac answered, “She’s my sister.” He was afraid to say “my wife.” He thought that the men of that place would kill him to get Rebekah, because she was an attractive woman.
Deja vu anyone? What I find so hard to swallow (and this is with the knowledge that we all make mistakes), why were these men so fearful for their lives with no consideration (it feels like), for the lives of their wives? No lie, I would feel some type of how (don’t know exactly the type of how), if my husband wants to sacrifice my integrity to save his skin. Two becomes one. We both go down as a unit. At least that’s my thought. I pray that doesn’t change. Seriously, no change in that please. Unity for good.
Yahweh’s Promises to Isaac:
- Bless his descendants – Genesis 26:4,5
- Increase the number of descendants – Genesis 26:24
Yahweh’s Promises to Jacob:
- Descendants would be like dust – Genesis 28:14
- Go back home, I will be with you – Genesis 31:3
- Go back home – Genesis 31:13
- Struggles with Yahweh – Genesis 32:25-30
- Go to Bethel – Genesis 35:1
- Name changed to Israel – Genesis 35:19
- Will be made a great nation in Egypt – Genesis 46:2,3
Genesis 28:2 – Quick! Go to Paddan Aram. Go to the home of Bethuel, your mother’s father, and get yourself a wife from there from the daughters of your uncle Laban.
When you become older, you truly have to put away the stories of childhood. The children’s Bible stories puts it across that Jacob ran immediately for his life. And for some reason that still stuck in my head. Even though I’ve read this before. Yahweh, I pray that any misconceptions birthed in error would be corrected. That I will see what you desire in all things.
Genesis 29:35 – She became pregnant again and gave birth to another son. She said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah [Praise]. Then she stopped having children.
Yahweh truly inhabits our praise. The lineage of Jesus was through Judah. He came through praise.
Genesis 32:11,12 – Please save me from my brother Esau, because I’m afraid of him. I’m afraid that he’ll come and attack me and the mothers and children too. But you did say, ‘I will make sure that you are prosperous and that your descendants will be as many as the grains of sand on the seashore. No one will be able to count them because there are so many.’ ”
But you did say. Even though he was terrified. But you did say. Even though it looked impossible. But YOU did say. Jacob held Yahweh to his word. Granted Yahweh who gonna keep his word regardless. But there is a level of confidence beneath the fear that we all should have. Did Yahweh say? Yes he did!
Genesis 42:36 – Their father Jacob said to them, “You’re going to make me lose all my children! Joseph is no longer with us, Simeon is no longer with us, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything’s against me!”
Many times when Yahweh is working things out, it seems that everything is against us. but Yahweh isn’t.
