I’m up. (Singing) Thank you for the cross Lord. Thank you for the price you paid. Bearing all my guilt and shame. In love you came and gave amazing Grace.Â
Thank you for a new day, another chance to sit with you and to learn from you. Thank you for being a teacher, for showing me what I ought to do and how to do it. And you never lose patience! No lie, people have asked me why I don’t teach and my answer hasn’t changed one bit – it’s not my calling in life. Yes, I know we are all called to teach others in some way, but for me not the way that most people view teaching.Â
Yahweh, I pray for your teachers in the school system. Anoint them to do your work. I honestly believe that they need a special anointing with one of your special blends because it’s not easy. It wasn’t easy before the world went kilkatay and it has just gotten harder. Strengthen them in you – mind, body, soul so that they trust you to lead them, to teach them how to teach others.Â
Thank you for your movement in my life. I (in a way)picture it like you twitch a little finger in my direction or blink one eye at someone and the environment changes. That your miniscule moves have a big impact on our personal lives. But then you lean forward and the whole world quakes in anticipation. What would happen when you stand? It is finished.Â
Psalm 68:1-3 – God will arise. His enemies will be scattered. Those who hate him will flee from him. Blown away like smoke. Let wicked people melt in God’s presence like wax next to a fire. But left righteous people rejoice. Let them celebrate in God’s presence. Let them overflow with joy.
Who can stand before Yahweh? This is a two-fold promise: God will arise. When he does, his enemies will be scattered, but his people will rejoice. He will get up, there is that surety. Those who sought to oppose him would be blown away and those who choose to stand for him will sing.
SIDEBAR: I actually don’t think any of us would be able to stand in his presence when he stands up. His enemies would be scattered. His people would rejoice, but fall prostrate at his feet (I like that word prostrate). When God stands the only one who can stand with him is Jesus.
Isaiah 3:13 – The Lord takes his place in the courtroom. He stands to judge his people.Â
Not all of Yahweh’s promises sound good at the moment (and I’ll admit I may not be saying this right). I think we all have a natural fear of being judged – of being put on trial and our deeds brought before the judge. We are afraid that the times we have broken the law would be brought up and we will be found guilty. But there is a promise within this promise. Yahweh stands, Jesus stands. When Yahweh stands his full glory is revealed and all who stands against him will scatter, but Jesus is also standing where we should be standing. Because he is righteous, he’s the only one who can stand. But his shadow covers us so our sins are covered by him and we can be in his presence and rejoice. (Singing) I will rejoice, I will rejoice and be glad.
You know, if Jesus was sitting his shadow would not likely cast a big enough shadow to cover us. Thank you for standing. Both in judgement and in grace. You are truly a God full of paradox but that’s what saves us. Help us to truly accept your grace and honour you because you are worthy to be praised.
