Discouragement is a tool of the devil. And it’s funny, when he recognises that there are areas that he can’t get you (big areas so to speak), he will attack the small. This morning as I got up (about five minutes or so after I got up), out of nowhere my mind went to the sauna at work and I suddenly got despondent and said, “I give up.” It didn’t seem to matter what I did to get the AC fixed, nothing was happening. So I’m not going to bother. If they never fix it, so be it.
But then also this song came to mind, “Be Alright” by Evan Craft and I started writing up some scriptures from yesterday that I wanted ready access to. Halfway through singing and writing the scriptures, I truly recognised what had happened. True, that isn’t anything I can do, but my attitude shouldn’t be one of discouragement. It’s one of those things that once you allow into one part of your life, it seems in the other aspects and soon everything seems discouraging. And we wonder what causes everything to suddenly look bleak. But we allowed him into one tiny aspect of our lives and like a rotten apple he spoils the whole thing.
I kind of do anything else about the sauna, but I can ensure that my attitude about it is right with Yahweh. I’m sorry for the discouragement that slipped in. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you and to not complain but to rejoice in every moment, no matter how disconcerting the moment is.
Psalm 121 – I look up toward the mountains. Where can I find help?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let you fall. Your guardian will not fall asleep.
Indeed, the Guardian of Israel never rests or sleeps.
The Lord is your guardian. The Lord is the shade over your right hand.
The sun will not beat down on you during the day, nor will the moon at night.
The Lord guards you from every evil. He guards your life.
The Lord guards you as you come and go, now and forever.
Yahweh, you are my shade. You are my guardian and I shall not be moved. Thank you for your care for me, thank you for your love and grace. You keep me, even in the sauna. Whether it’s fixed today or never, you are my shade. Whatever happens at the office, you will not let me fall. But even in the small things I need to look to you. Even when it looks like nothing is happening, trust in your timing and not complain. You are my help. You are my guardian. You will guard me from every evil. And I will trust you.
Trust God in the Small Things
I remembered last week telling my old friend that if I trust Yahweh in the little things that I need to trust him in the big things. But this morning, I see where I can completely trust him in the “big things” and try to take away control in the “little things.” But all things are under his control. Big and small. Seemingly inconsequential and major earthquakes, they are all in your control. You are my God. You are my king and I will praise you. You are worthy of all praise. You are my love. You are my strength. You are the lifter of my head. Thank you for who you are in my life. Thank you for loving me and for being in control. I love you.
The recognition that if I have connected with Steph then I have actually passed RaeRae, just hit me. I will not bother him again, but I will keep on praying for him. His family, his work, his relationship with you. Keep him Yahweh in your will. Provide for him and may He trust you in all things. Thank you for your grace in his life.
It’s the smallest thing that can send someone down the wrong track or even off the rails. When you think about the mechanism on the train tracks compared to the tracks themselves or the train, it is a small item that switches tracks. So small, most of us aren’t even aware when it happens. But an attentive train driver would be. And since Yahweh is my train driver, he definitely noticed and put me back on the right track. Thank you for your grace in my life and for the care that you take. You are so good to me.
Psalm 59:17 – O my strength, I will make music to praise you! God is my stronghold, my merciful God!
2 Corinthians 1:3 – Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the Father who is compassionate and the God who gives comfort.
Ephesians 1:3 – Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Through Christ, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that heaven has to offer.
Psalm 104:33-34 – I will sing to the Lord throughout my life. I will make music to praise my God as long as I live. May my thoughts be pleasing to him. I will find joy in the Lord.
Psalm 145:1 – I will highly praise you, my God, the king. I will bless your name forever and ever.
1 Chronicles 29:10-11 – He praised the Lord while the whole assembly watched. David said, “May you be praised, Lord God of Israel, our father forever and ever. Greatness, power, splendor, glory, and majesty are yours, Lord, because everything in heaven and on earth is yours. The kingdom is yours, Lord, and you are honored as head of all things.
Revelations 7:12 – and said, “Amen! Praise, glory, wisdom, thanks, honor, power, and strength be to our God forever and ever! Amen!”

Thank you. There are moments I wonder if I can stand. And in each moment you hold me up. Each moment you are there by my side. You are the great I am. The only God. You are everything I need.
