Yahweh has never treated us the way we deserved. If he did, he would not have even created us. He literally loved us before we were formed. The truth is though, so many years have been focused on Yahweh’s judgement that it’s what so many of us see when we look at Yahweh. That he is waiting there with a pen and paper (or iPad or phone) to take note of every single mistake that we make. And yes he does forgive, but if you mess up again, it pushes him further away.Â
But then the pendulum swings to the other side where it becomes all about Yahweh’s grace. His unmatched love (this is true ehhh) that will always forgive – there’s no consequences for our actions so we do whatever we want to do, because Yahweh is love. Yahweh is full of paradox: Servant King, and we need to recognise he’s not one or the other, he’s both in perfect harmony. He’s the Lion and the Lamb. He is judgement and grace.
SIDEBAR: I searched the scripture for where it said the lion will lay down by the lamb. I have heard that statement so many times that I never once thought to question it. Similar to the phrase that there will be no starless crowns in heaven (spoiler alert: that’s not in scripture either). What did I find?Â
Isaiah 11:6 – The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (KJV)
Isaiah 65:25 – The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord. (KJV)
While lion and lamb are in the same scripture, it does not speak about them lying down together. But what is important is that animals (people too) that were natural (according to the sinful world) enemies would cohabitate. There would be no fear.Â
And the next thought is: the lion shall eat straw like the bullock and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. My thought is this: it’s possible that before the fall of man that the animals that are carnivores now were all vegetarians! When you think about it, why would Yahweh in his goodness create a world where creatures would be killing each other to survive? Especially since man’s original diet did not include meat (as in flesh meat, not food meat). Does that mean that vegetarians would really rule the world when it’s all said and done? Truthfully in thinking about it, I can’t see a world after Christ returns where we have to slaughter animals for food. And I truly believe that just as the lion’s taste buds and whole digestive system will be changed when Christ returns, so will ours.Â
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 – I’m telling you a mystery. Not all of us will die, but we will all be changed. It will happen in an instant, in a split second at the sound of the last trumpet. Indeed, that trumpet will sound, and then the dead will come back to life. They will be changed so that they can live forever.
Ipso possiblo, no meat in heaven! (Or the new earth) but you know what? It would not matter, I don’t think we would miss it. Just like the lion would enjoy eating straw and the wolf would be best buds with what used to be its food: we would be changed.Â
End SIDEBAR (whew!! That was a long sidebar).
Right, back to where I was originally: we need to stop putting Yahweh in a box or in a corner. He is so much more than we can ask, think or imagine.Â
Ephesians 3:20 – Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.Â
What that scripture says. I will not presume to know how you work, I’m just glad you do.
