Matthew 18:19 – “I can guarantee again that if two of you agree on anything here on earth, my Father in heaven will accept it.
Hmmm. I think we truly underestimate the level of authority Yahweh has given to us.
Matthew 19:20 – The young man replied, “I have obeyed all these commandments. What else do I need to do?”
The young man knew something was missing in everything that he was doing. He was feeling the emptiness. When Jesus said, “If thou wilt be perfect.” he was trying to show the young man that it’s not about his actions, it was about his heart. Treasure in heaven is a heart matter. Following Jesus is a heart matter. His property was physical. His actions were physical. Yahweh wants the heart – the spiritual.
Matthew 21:12 – Jesus went into the temple courtyard and threw out everyone who was buying and selling there. He overturned the moneychangers’ tables and the chairs of those who sold pigeons.
I don’t think that Jesus was angry when he did this. He knew he was to die. This scene was calculated to hit the Pharisees and Sadducees in a place they could not ignore. It was so scripture could be fulfilled about his death.
Matthew 22:11-13 – “When the king came to see the guests, he saw a person who was not dressed in the wedding clothes provided for the guests. He said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without proper wedding clothes?’ “The man had nothing to say. Then the king told his servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him outside into the darkness. People will cry and be in extreme pain there.’
So I have never before seen where clothes were provided for the guests. Yes I grew up reading the King James Version (also NIV), which makes no such comment. However, it always puzzled me why he would be so upset about him not wearing the right clothes and I thought, “What else did you expect the man to wear if he just came off the streets?” But it puts a completely different spin when consideration is given that he was offered clothes and refused, He was offered to be covered in righteousness and he said no! Sadments.
Matthew 22:45,46 – If David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?” No one could answer him, and from that time on no one dared to ask him another question.
Jesus was a bit tricky. Guess that’s the wise as a serpent, harmless as a dove combo. Outsmart all of them.
Matthew 23:24 – You blind guides! You strain gnats out of your wine, but you swallow camels.
At first I was like what?! And then I saw that too many of us focus on the wrong things like what colour they wore today, instead of the sin that I committed today.
Matthew 27:25 – All the people answered, “The responsibility for killing him will rest on us and our children.”
In their anger, they called down a curse on themselves and their generations. We need to be extra careful in our anger.
