John 8:4 – and asked Jesus, “Teacher, we caught this woman in the act of adultery.

This story always fascinated me. Morbid fascination: like watching a train wreck. Like why? Why did they do this? And as I’m thinking, I’m reminded of the scripture in Psalm 57:6 where the ones who dug a pit for someone else fell into it themselves. I think the part that bothers me the most was: who’s wife, daughter, sister, mother was she? Where were the ones society (really Yahweh) had ordained to protect her? Where were they?

John 8:33 – They replied to Jesus, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and we’ve never been anyone’s slaves. So how can you say that we will be set free?”

I guess this is why you call us sheep. Sheep need a shepherd and sheep (to quote a friend) are dumb. They forget easily. The Jews forgot 400 plus years of slavery. Just forgot it. They forgot that they were currently under Roman rule at that very moment. A gilded cage is still a cage.

John 9:41 –  Jesus told them, “If you were blind, you wouldn’t be sinners. But now you say, ‘We see,’ so you continue to be sinners.

It’s amazing how much the heart posture matters to Yahweh. John 9:25 – The once blind man said, “Now I see.” And that belief saved him. Yet the Pharisees also declared that “they see” and yet were still considered sinners. Same/similar words, different heart.

John 13:18 –  “I’m not talking about all of you. I know the people I’ve chosen to be apostles. However, I’ve made my choice so that Scripture will come true. It says, ‘The one who eats my bread has turned against me.’

We may go through a situation and wonder why we through it since we were following guidance. But Yahweh looked at the bigger picture. Jesus knew what had to come and went through the betrayal because he knew the end result would be worth it. We can hold on to that assurance too.

John 15:6 – Whoever doesn’t live in me is thrown away like a branch and dries up. Branches like this are gathered, thrown into a fire, and burned.

This is not the refiner’s fire. This is not a purifying fire. This a a fire that scourges.

John 16:14-15 –  He will give me glory, because he will tell you what I say. Everything the Father says is also what I say. That is why I said, ‘He will take what I say and tell it to you.’

Ever wonder how the Triune God functions? They speak as one. They operate in unity. They do not contradict each other.
