Job 23:8-9 – However, if I go east, he isn’t there. If I go west, I can’t find him. If I go northward, where he is at work, I can’t observe him. If I turn southward, I can’t see him.
Truly in our despair it can be difficult to see Yahweh. He is there, but we can’t see him. Honestly I ain’t even mad at Job because this is not an easy situation. I’ve been through stuff, but it doesn’t compare to what he is going through. I’ve often said that Yahweh knows what to test people with so that when the test is over they would come out as gold. (Job 23:10). But I am also reminded of Psalm 139:7-12 where David is saying that no matter where he goes, he cannot hide from Yahweh. And that is the truth. But we can forget that in our despair.
Job 28:12-13 – Where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding live? No mortal knows where it is. It cannot be found in this world of the living.
Well. I know where wisdom can be found. Granted he is right, it cannot be found in the land of the living. Actually, let me correct myself and agree with Job. Wisdom cannot be found, it must be asked for. When it is asked for, it is then given freely by Yahweh.
Job 29:11 – Any ears that heard me blessed me. Any eyes that saw me spoke well of me.
Confession: this feels very conceited to me. Not sure why, but it does. In a way, it makes me truly believe that Yahweh was seeking to humble Mr. Job to some extent.
Job 30:12 – They have attacked me on my right side like a mob. They trip my feet and then prepare ways to destroy me.
Wow. So often the ones that were helped in the past are now the ones who bad talking the one who helped them. Granted (sorry Job) in this case, Job had previously stated that he didn’t think their fathers were fit to be sit with the dogs of his flock (Job 30:1) but I don’t think he was treating them badly. Unless they were one that he would have knocked out their teeth because they were wicked (Job 29:17).
