Yahweh, I just want to thank you. I am desiring to hold on to the peace that you gave me come what may. Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. Jayden died. It is your will. Remember the family.
Yahweh. Yahweh. Yahweh. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I always say when I see words being repeated or themes being repeated, I take note. And hold on to it: pun totally intended. I literally just posted, “Hold my hand” on the blog. I had paused the song that was playing on the random YouTube playlist as I had to make a quick work related call. When I got back to the music and pressed play, I saw the title, “You Hold it All Together,” Maverick City Music. Of course, the other song that was also open was, “Hold to God’s Unchanging Hands” James Hall.
HOLD:
Matthew 14:31 – Immediately, Jesus reached out, caught hold of him, and said, “You have so little faith! Why did you doubt?”
Note to self: stop doubting.
Hold : epilambanomai : to lay hold of, take hold of, seize, overtake, take possession.
I think I love that the first one that up in my search was Jesus taking hold of Peter: of us. “Taking possession” ownership so to speak, even with his doubts.
Luke 8:37 (NIV) – Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
The word translated to overcome is: sunechó : to hold together, to be seized (by illness), to press on every side.
Genesis 19:16 – When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.
Grab : chazaq : to be or grow firm or strong, strengthen, of royal power, become powerful.
Genesis 39:12 – She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.
SIDEBAR: Usually I search the Bible for the word then using the interlinear Bible find the word. This time I did it the other way around. The results are interesting.
Taphas : to lay hold of, wield, seize, taken over.
In every instance there is a force involved. This hold is not casual or easily let go of. Even in the case of Joseph, Potiphar’s wife held on so tight, she tore his clothes off his body. Jesus held on so tight, Peter was held up. The angels held on so tightly that they pulled Lot’s family out of danger. To hold on requires commitment and perseverance. Nothing should remove it. That’s the type of hold that Yahweh has on me, on us. Truthfully, so should we for him.
Colours of the Rainbow
Listen, these guys make me smile. So I was speaking with a co-worker and in response to something he said, I said, “I’m usually in bed by 8:30pm. It’s part of what I had to do to be able to sleep. For years I was only sleeping one or two hours a night.” He was like what?!! And then said, “Don’t worry when you get your husband you’ll sleep like a baby.” Straight face, no chaser. I told him no worries, it soon come, but in the meantime, I still cherish my sleep.
A beautiful thing happened on the way home. I posted a study I had done on the colours of the rainbow (June 26, evening) on the blog today. And on my way home I saw a rainbow. Rainbows hold a special place in my heart and the last two times I saw a rainbow there was significance there too.
