For the first time in a long time I did a couple things.Â
- Stayed up past 9:00 p.m. Yep. I’m a rebel.Â
- Made bake in the oven. I usually make it on the stove top but carrying breakfast for folks in the morning and I didn’t want to make the bake in the morning.Â
- Watched a show! An actual series!! Now truthfully, I did not want to leave the main area or I might forget about the bake and it might burn. So wanted to stay close and awake.Â
Well that was three things, not a couple things. But who’s counting?Â
Thank you for today. This evening I realised that all this reading made me a boss at Bible trivia. Truthfully I’ve always liked Bible trivia, but one question in particular I was like, I read that a week ago! So I knew the answer. One of the other answers, I knew all because of the name. I like unusual names and this one always stood out, so I remembered the story.
Sceva: of the seven sons of Sceva fame. It’s sad to be known by the idiocy of your children.Â
Another name I’ve always liked was Arphaxad. And it must be spelled with the x, not the other spellings.
And of course (drum roll please): Maher-shalal-hash-baz. For its sheer multisyllabic awesomeness. Plus whenever I used this name for “I’m thinking of a Bible Character” Game, for some reason only my mother would get it. So in a church group, I would forbid her to guess this one, just so no one would guess it.
Naphtali
Lamech
Reuel: The man with multiple names. But I like this one the best.
Vashti: Now there are so many thoughts on whether she was wrong for refusing her husband, but I got to say, I’m not sure I’d want to dance half naked to entertain my husband’s friends. My husband, yes. His friends? Hell to the no!Â
Cephas: The other name for Peter.
Names are fascinating to me and honestly I think it’s important to look at the meaning of the name. I had always liked the name Mackenzie for a girl. What’s in a name? Everything.Â
Yahweh – I am the I Am.
Yahweh changed names of people to who they should be. While his name is all encompassing – he also had other names that spoke specifically to a person or situation. My favorite name for Yahweh (after Yahweh) is El Roi: the God who sees me.
Because he saw me when no one else would or could. He saw his purpose in me. He saw what I needed. He saw why I hurt and he saw how to heal me. He saw all of me and he still loves me. And that’s why I love him. Because when others leave, he’s there. When others ignore me, he doesn’t. He sees me. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for who you are. I love you.
TODAY’S THANKFUL TALLY
- The Name above all names.
- The God who sees me and still loves me.
- The God who healed me.
- The God who holds me.
