Genesis 2:9 – The Lord God made all the trees grow out of the ground. These trees were nice to look at, and their fruit was good to eat. The tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil grew in the middle of the garden.
I remember the previous revelation that Adam and Eve had to go back daily for the provision of eternal life. But!! Not just the provision of eternal life: everyday they had to choose between life and good/evil. Both trees were in the centre. In proximity to each other. Everyday we are faced with the choice: life or death. This is a recurring theme throughout the Bible. So when it says the serpent spoke to her, Eve wasn’t anywhere she wasn’t usually. She was at the place where everyday she made a choice. But she chose something else that day.
Genesis 6:18 – “But I will make my promise to you. You, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives will go into the ship.
So I grew up on the statement that Noah preached for 120 years. Debunked that 120 years awhile back, but still was under the impression that Noah preached to the people. Nowhere does it say that Noah preached. And Yahweh clearly said that his covenant was with him, his wife, his sons and their wives. He was instructed to build an ark. He was commanded to bring two of every creature. He was commanded to take food for him and the animals. Noah did everything that Yahweh commanded him. There was nothing about preaching.
Genesis 9:3 – Everything that lives and moves will be your food. I gave you green plants as food; I now give you everything else.
This is messing with my sensibilities. Yes I still hold that we’ll be vegetarians in heaven and the new earth. But everything that moves? Everything? What about those lists in Leviticus? Just asking nah, cause I never really noticed this.
Genesis 11:12 – Arpachshad was 35 years old when he became the father of Shelah.
There was a difference in their timelines before the flood and after the flood. Before: father at 70/80/90. After: father at 30/35
Genesis 12:19 – Why did you say, ‘She’s my sister’ and allow me to take her for my wife? Here’s your wife! Take her and go!”
I’m mad at the overly sanitised version of Bible stories. Pharaoh took Sarai as his wife, which meant they had sex. Tell me why these Bible stories made it seem like it was the same night before they did anything that he was aware? There was time fro cattle to be exchanged. Time for the plagues to happen. Time. Sigh.
Genesis 22:17 – I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies’ cities.
So I stand corrected, Yahweh made his promise to Abraham seven times. I thought it was six and all before Isaac was born.
