Today I made breakfast because I did not make any yesterday. Today I don’t even know what to say, but I feel content. Many often look at the word “content” as lacking: as though someone is not satisfied and has just accepted their current status.Â
Philippians 4:11 – I’m not saying this because I’m in any need. I’ve learned to be content in whatever situation I’m in.
Truthfully, I blame this text for the misconception of the word content and of course, humanity’s own perspective on things. A person cannot be happy in poverty or in every situation – not really happy, so then “content” must mean something else. But content means: in a state of peaceful happiness, a state of satisfaction.
This is a dictionary definition and honestly (really?!!) It speaks to the strength that Yahweh gives no matter what the situation. He will strengthen in times of low and high.
But the word “auteakes” which translated to content, the actual definition is “self-sufficient,” “sufficient.”Â
No matter what the season or situation, I have sufficient, I have enough. Because I have Yahweh. It is an acknowledgment and rejoicing that Yahweh is in control and that we need to trust him because he is more than enough. Content is not a word to represent an “oh well” situation. But one where we trust Yahweh to do what needs to be done and to rejoice in his presence as we trust him.Â
Thank you Yahweh for your spirit of contentment that we will always find joy in you.Â
Expense of a Yes
I see the expense of a yes almost constantly. I’ve learned over the years to say no to many things. I’ve been mocked for saying no. Called names. Been told I’m not a Christian because I said no. But I am witnessing the cost of saying yes when they should have said no. Even though they don’t want to say “no more,” they’re angry and upset about the situation. It is truly important to weigh the cost of saying yes especially over a period of time.Â
