time with Yahweh during the day

My wondering thought/question is this: as Christians can we dislike someone? I know that hate is not of Yahweh, but what if you don’t hate the person and would prefer not to have anything to do with them because of their attitude, behaviour etc. The thing is, I don’t always like some people (shame face). I don’t want anything to do with them and it’s usually due to their behaviour or attitude. I’m not sure if that’s the best thing to do.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 – But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—  having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

Now I know I should not be laughing because it’s serious business. But this is a long listing of things that folks do (including things that the person I’m concerned about is doing) and at the end of all that: five words – Stay away from such people.

I hear that.

And on the flipside…I’m getting friend requests on FB. From people that I don’t know and never met. Granted I am using a pseudonym, but I’ve always used Facebook to connect with people that I knew personally. It is interesting watching what is a phenomenon to me. And folks post a lot of things on Facebook that make me wonder or as the song says, “things that make me go hmmmm.”

Food Galore

CONFESSION: I have a thought. It’s not the most magnanimous thought, but I’m kinda standing by it. When someone on my island says that they are absolutely starving and have absolutely nothing to eat, I look at them as being lazy. It’s clear that they mean they want store bought food, but our country has abundance. There are homeless breadfruit trees, mango trees, and banana trees. Homeless chicken, random pigeon peas planted by the side of the road. Ninety-five percent of the time if you ask to pick, folks usually say yes. You can catch fish, waters are in abundance. I’ve seen guys using bamboo to catch fish. There is too much naturally occurring on our island. But we have trained ourselves to focus on the grocery, but there is so much that we can use outside of the store.

And…if we so much feel we can’t catch the fish ourselves. Head down to a beach where they are pulling seine and help: guaranteed that they will share. Oh forgot to mention: the cashews, cherries, sea grapes, avocados (though avocados are like gold), chataigne, dasheen, cassava, bhagi and I’ve lost count.
